Torngren Engineering History
C.W.Torngren was originally formed as a plumbing supply house in Somerville, MA. With an interest in manufacturing, the owners developed a process to form metal. The first products manufactured were dome caps for hot water boilers. Shortly thereafter, Torngren became the first company to perfect hydraulic power spinning. In the early years, the company became known as a leader in forming pressurized deep-sea diver helmets. During WWII, Torngren introduced the largest and most powerful Mecatorn spinning machine and worked with GE and Pratt Whitney on forming components for first generation jet engines. For the application of radar, and then when the first satellites were being put into orbit and for many years thereafter, Torngren produced contoured reflectors for the wireless communication industry.
In 1961, Torngren manufactured its first Omega Seal for the U.S. Navy. In January, 1970, Standex purchased Torngren and in 1971, the business was moved to our current location in Billerica, MA. After Standex purchased the Spincraft Company in Wisconsin in 1980, the Torngren factory in Massachusetts was renamed Spincraft.
